Obituary of Herbert Gable


Herbert Flanders Gable, 75, of Scotia passed peacefully on October 8, 2018. Born in Pittsfield, MA to the late Charles and Grace (Flanders) Gable. 

A Pittsfield High School Graduate; Herbert proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1963 to 1966. He was a solider in the 101st Airborne Division as a Patriot Trooper in the Vietnam War; throughout his military career he was honored a Vietnam Service Medal and Combat Infantryman Badge. His experience in the air earned him a Parachutist Badge. 

He was a long-time employee at General Electric. He retired from Saint-Gobain in Watervliet. In his spare time, he built many homes and garages. 

Herbert was a man of many passions, especially for motorcycles. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking and working with his hands in construction. He loved watching the leaves change in the fall, and spending time on Anna Maria Island in Florida where he watched beautiful sunsets. 

He was a loving husband to his beloved wife, Elizabeth (nee: Larkin). As well as a wonderful Father, Grandfather, Brother, Friend and Mentor. 

Predeceased by his brothers, Jerry, Charles Jr. Gable; sister, Jane McConkey 

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; daughters, Carleen Matheson and Michelle Guerra; grandchildren, Kirstie Matheson, Michael, Alexis and Neiko Guerra; brothers, Robert (Debbie) Gable, Clark (Jane) Gable; as well as many nieces and nephews. 

A military committal service will be held at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville, NY 12871, on Friday, October 12th at 10 AM. Procession will begin from the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Road Glenville NY, parking lot at 8:45 A.M.
