Obituary of Judith Pomato

Judith Clare Pomato, 75, of Ballston Spa, beloved wife of Anthony D. Pomato, DDS, entered eternal rest on December 4, 2018 at the Glendale Home surrounded by her loved ones.

Judith was born on April 21, 1943 in Schenectady, NY to Henry and Bernice Rivers. She was a graduate of Linton High School. She met the love of her life, Tony, on a blind date and they married in Schenectady before moving to Buffalo, NY to support her husband in Dental School and begin an adventure of a lifetime. She and Tony returned to Schenectady after his military duty in Arizona and New Mexico, where she helped Tony establish his Dental Practice. She became a Secretary-Dental Assistant in the practice and eventually retired to become a stay at home Mom for her two wonderful sons.

Judith bravely endured decades struggling with Multiple Sclerosis, diagnosed in 1976. With the support of her husband, family and many friends, she was able to enjoy and fulfill many personal and professional goals and interests including raising two beautiful boys, gardening, breeding show dogs, growing orchids, and volunteering for many community projects.

Despite the limitations brought on by her condition, Judith became a Show Dog Breeder; built a greenhouse and propagated Orchids; served on the Board of Directors of the Keeshond Club of America, the Pekingese Club of America and was a member of the Saratoga and Mohawk Kennel Clubs and Northeast Orchid Society. In later years, she enjoyed many vacation cruises, and traveled to numerous destinations, including: Australia, Hawaii, Alaska and Las Vegas.

Judith was predeceased by her son, Christopher, her parents Henry and Bernice Rivers and her brother, Richard Rivers, MD.

Judith is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Tony; her son, Peter (Tina), her brother, Thomas (Lynn) Rivers; mother-in-law, Mary; daughter-in-law, Jody; brother-in-law, Nicholas (Maureen); cousins, James, Michael, Maryanne, and Kathleen; nieces and nephews: Sarah, Jessica, Michael, Nicholas, Noah, Ryan, and Rachael; grandchildren: Nikki, Christopher, Kristen, Carol, Steven and numerous great-grandchildren.

Her family wishes to thank the staff at Glendale Home for their wonderful support and care of Judy in the last few weeks of her life. Also, we thank Keith Edwards, MD. and Peter Rienzi, MD. For their thoughtful care and support throughout her disability.

Judy was an exceptional person who continued to smile and encourage everyone she met through some of the most demanding moments of her battle with this terrible disease. She cherished the many friends she made, especially, Fran, Liz and PJ.

Calling hours will be held at Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd. on Sunday, December 9th from 5 to 7 PM. Funeral services will be 10 AM on Monday, held at the funeral home, officiated by Father Jerome Gingras. Interment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna, NY.

Contributions in memory of Judith may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or Mohawk Animal Protective Foundation or a charity of one’s choice. Online condolences may be made at glenvillefuneralhome.com
