Obituary of Robert "Bob" W. Newkirk

Robert "Bob" W. Newkirk, 82 of Glenville, New York passed away suddenly at home on Monday, December 5, 2022. Born on June 2, 1940 in Chestertown, New York to his late parents, Earl S. and Elizabeth C. Newkirk. Bob grew up in Johnstown, New York graduating from Johnstown High School.
He served in the Army from 1959 to 1965. He was employed by the NYS Department of Correctional Services as the Support Services Coordinator until his retirement in 2002.
During the course of his life, Bob served as a Volunteer Fireman, USA Swimming Official, and an International Luge Official for the 1980 Olympics held in Lake Placid, NY. He was also a long-term member and volunteer at the Empire State Aerosciences Museum. He loved to play golf and spend time with his family (especially his grandchildren).
Bob married the light and love of his life Joyce. They met as teenagers and their love continued to grow for 63 years. Together they raised two children, Tammy and Robert. As a father, he was active in his children's lives and always made family a priority. Bob was lovingly known as "PaPa" to his grandchildren who loved him with every ounce of their hearts.
He is predeceased by his son Robert, his brothers Warren J. and Earl H. Newkirk. He is survived by his wife Joyce, daughter Tammy (Mark) McGraw, granddaughters Allyson (Robbie) Haynes, Margaret (Nick) Fornadel, Kathleen McGraw, and great-grandson Rowan Haynes. He is also survived by his brother Roger E. (Sharon) Newkirk, sister Carol (Philip) Monroe and Karen Lavoie as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In keeping with Bob's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Private Funeral Services will be held at the convenience of the family.  Bob will be laid to rest at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
Those wishing to remember Bob may contribute to the Empire State Aerosciences Museum or the Thomas Corner's Volunteer Fire Department in Glenville, NY or to a charity of their choice.
